      Once you start working in a research field not necessary in the laboratory, you become a scientist. But to have an impact in your field of interest, you need to be consistent and focus and in several years….you master the field making you an authority in the area. Some people mention you need 10 years to become an authority in afield but it also depend on other factors like availability of mentorship, exposure etc etc
