  The smallest bone is the stapes which is the third bone of the three ossicles in the middle ear. The stapes is a stirrup-shaped bone. It rests on the oval window, to which it is connected by an annular ligament. There are the three bones in the middle ear — Malleus, Incus and Stapes. The smallest bones of the three, the one that looks like a ring, is the Stapes.
